Future public talks may include a repeat of the following two talks:
1) Depression: The 'Common Cold' of Mental Illness and other mood disorders.
This talk aims to increase public understanding of adult age mood disorders, their signs and symptoms, causes, assessment and best evidence-based treatments. Whilst mainly focusing on depression, elevated mood conditions such as bi-polar disorder (previous known as manic-depression) will also be discussed. Practical tips to help sufferers start to cope or overcome their conditions will be covered. Audience questions will be welcomed at the end.
2) Anxiety Disorders: A Crisis of the Imagination? What if... what if... what if?
This talk aims to increase public understanding of adult age anxiety disorders, their signs and symptoms, causes, assessment and best evidence-based treatments. The distinction between helpful and harmful anxiety is highlighted, and the basic unit of anxiety - the flight/fight response - explained. The most common anxiety disorders, panic disorder, generalised anxiety, social phobia and traumatic stress conditions, will be explored. Practical tips to help sufferers start to cope or overcome their conditions will be covered. Audience questions will be welcomed at the end.
